About CYCA

CYCA is a trauma-informed charity supporting children, young people, and families across Carmarthenshire. We are expanding our youth services and launching a Youth Board to embed youth voice at the heart of our work. This new role is central to our mission to build a legacy of active citizenship, emotional resilience, and community-led innovation.

This post is funded through BBC Children in Need, supporting our commitment to empowering young people and amplifying their voices in shaping services and strategy.

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic, empathetic Youth Officer to lead our youth engagement strategy and deliver high-impact after-school programmes. Working 5 hours per week at £15.00 per hour, you will act as a bridge between young people and CYCA’s leadership, ensuring their voices shape services, policies, and funding priorities.

A key focus of this role is to develop and embed CYCA’s Youth Board, ensuring it becomes a meaningful mechanism for informing the CEO and Board of Trustees. You will also build strategic partnerships with comprehensive and primary schools across Llanelli, strengthening CYCA’s reach and ensuring young people are actively involved in shaping trauma-informed services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Youth Leadership & Governance
  • Establish and facilitate CYCA’s Youth Board, ensuring it actively informs the Board of Trustees and senior leadership.
  • Mentor “Change Makers” – youth leaders empowered to apply for funding and drive innovation from a child’s perspective.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Trustees to ensure youth perspectives shape organisational strategy.
  • After-School Programme Delivery
  • Design and deliver trauma-informed after-school activities that promote emotional regulation, life skills, and resilience.
  • Create safe, inclusive spaces for children and young people to connect, learn, and thrive.
  • Monitor outcomes and adapt provision to meet emerging needs and trends.
  • Community Engagement & Co-Production.
  • Formalise consultation processes to embed youth voice in service design and evaluation.
  • Co-create programmes with children and young people to ensure relevance and impact.
  • Develop partnerships with local comprehensive and primary schools to strengthen engagement and co-delivery.

Sustainability & Partnerships

  • Build strategic partnerships and explore funding streams to sustain youth-led initiatives.
  • Position CYCA as a sector leader in youth empowerment and trauma-informed practice.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience working with children and young people in community, education, or therapeutic settings.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and youth empowerment.
  • Experience in designing and delivering after-school programmes or youth activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage across age groups and leadership levels.
  • Strategic thinker with a passion for co-production and inclusive practice.
  • Experience in partnership development, especially with schools, is highly desirable.
