CYCA Hwb

Situated at the popular St. Elli shopping centre in Llanelli. Originally conceived by a group of CYCA volunteers as part of the Heart of the Community project, CYCA Hwb aims to bring the heart back into the community and help families realise their potential while supporting others. The idea was born before Christmas 2022, with the intention of providing donated toys at affordable prices to assist with the rising costs of living.

Thanks to the generosity of a local businessman named Alun, who was involved with another CYCA project called Dreugiau CYCA dragons, CYCA managed to secure an amazing shop space at St. Ellis shopping centre for a duration of six months but due to ongoing support, we have been able to extend our presence there. With everyone's continued support, we aim to remain in the community for as long as necessary.

The Dreugiau project, open to the entire Carmarthenshire region, aimed to support individuals who wanted to start their own businesses but faced financial barriers. Those selected as finalists received support, guidance, and financial assistance from CYCA.

With the space at St. Elli shopping centre, CYCA Hwb began offering a range of affordable products from newly started local businesses alongside the Heart of the Community project. The initiative quickly became popular, and the community recognized that CYCA Hwb was more than just a shop. The Hwb provided free winter coats for men, women, and children, a warm space for enjoying hot drinks and snacks, and workshops focused on well-being until the end of March 2023.

During the week, CYCA Hwb hosted various activities for adults based on the community's preferences and needs. These activities included knitting classes, a book club called "the bookworms" (which still runs every Saturday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am), arts and crafts sessions, and puzzle and board game gatherings. Saturdays were dedicated to children, with activities such as Playdoh sessions, arts and crafts, and fruit kebab making.

Today, CYCA Hwb continues to thrive with its range of affordable products and the presence of Dreugiau Dragons businesses. The Hwb currently runs a scheme offering prom dresses and occasion wear to the community at very affordable prices. All of these items have been kindly donated to CYCA Hwb and have proven to be much needed in the community.

We initially planned to stay at the shop in St. Ellis Centre for 6 months, but due to ongoing support, we have been able to extend our presence there. With everyone's continued support, we aim to remain in the community for as long as necessary, providing assistance and aid.

In addition to the product offerings, CYCA Hwb organizes monthly F.A.B (Fill A Bag) events where customers can fill a bag for life for only £5. This has become immensely popular and helps generate funds to sustain the Hwb. The Hwb is also introducing more workshops, with each session costing only £1.

A Crochet class will be held on Tuesdays from 2pm-3pm, and starting in June 2023. Wellbeing Wednesday’s workshops will cover topics like breathing techniques and relaxation for the mind and body.

On Fridays, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, CYCA Hwb hosts a gardening discussion group, providing a platform for like-minded individuals to share their knowledge, tips, and even exchange seeds and plants. Saturdays remain focused on children, offering fun workshops tailored to their enjoyment. To ensure limited spaces are utilized effectively, all workshops operate on a booking system. We have showcase shelves available for businesses in our store for £30 a month and business owners can rent a table for the day with us for £10 a day (please be advised that the tables will need to be run and maintained by the seller who should have the relevant insurances.)

We can accommodate four tables at any one time, so booking is essential. We do provide tables, but if sellers wish to bring their own, they can, please consider the size of the space available in store if bringing your own table.
