JOB DESCRIPTION

 
Hours of work : 3pm to 6pm term time; 8am to 1pm or 1pm to 6pm school holidays
 
PURPOSE
 
To organise and provide play activities of a recreational and leisure nature for children aged 3 - 11.
To supervise, support and advise teams of staff, which will include Voluntary Trainees and Sessional staff.
 
RESPONSIBLE TO
 
The Leader shall be responsible to the Play Officer.
 
RESPONSIBLE FOR
 
The Leader shall lead a team of workers and establish strong relationships between staff and between staff and the young people and their parents.
 
MAIN TASKS
 
1. To plan and provide activities for children aged 3 – 11, e.g.
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Sports, Games and Leisure
  • Health and related issues
  • Support and Guidance
2. As far as possible to develop parent support groups associated with After School Clubs.
3. To encourage local knowledge of facilities for children.
4. To encourage local involvement through various events outside normal activities for children.
5. To undertake the completion of Association administration, including responsibility for:
  • Completion of weekly written report
  • Completion of weekly time sheets
  • Record the number of children attending
  • Record any incidents or accidents that may occur
  • Collection of weekly subscriptions
6. To develop and enhance skills which will improve one’s understanding of partnerships with children. These might include:-
  • Face to face work
  • Group work
  • Activity based work/social skills
  • Information resources
7. To carry out the work of the Association with due regard to the Children's Act and Health & Safety requirements.
8. To participate in fund-raising events organised by the Association when necessary.
9. To undertake regular Health & Safety checks of premises used for any activity.
10. There will be occasions when you will be required to accompany children/young people on Out of Centre activities.
 
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
 
It is the nature of the work of the Association that tasks and responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All staff are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises.
 
STAFF MEETING AND TRAINING
 
The Association expects Leaders to attend staff/team meetings convened by the Manager and to also attend monthly review meetings with the Manager. The attendance of training events is a prerequisite. The Leader shall also be expected to convene regular team meetings and to report the outcome of these meetings to the Manager.
 
PERSONAL ATTITUDE
 
1. It is essential to have a belief and understanding of the importance of children’s play.
2. It is essential to have a flexible and varied approach and to work openly with colleagues and parents.
3. Ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable..
4. A clean driving license is essential and the availability of own transport is desirable.
 
OTHER DETAILS
 
1. Salaries are made by cheque at first and then directly into your bank account, monthly in arrears.
2. Travel expenses are paid through prior agreement with the Play Officer.
3. It is essential that the staff have a strong commitment to all aspects of Equal Opportunities Policy.
4. The current rate of pay is £7.00 per hour.
