Sexual Exploitation training in great demand

CYCA's newly written training course "Practical Safeguarding and Child Protection: Sexual Exploitation and Grooming" is proving to be in great demand.

After trialling the course with CYCA staff in March of this year, it was rolled out to other agencies throughout Carmarthenshire who work with children and young people and with one session taking place in March and another in June. The course has been extremely well received and both sessions were fully booked with particpants from Deyfed Powys Police, Social Services, Team Around The Family, Familiy Centres and Schools.

The course which is devised and delivered by CYCA CEO, Tracy Pike takes place over 2 days:

Day 1 - A 4 hour session that enables participants to increase their knowledge and understanding of sexual exploitation and cyber bullying.

The session enables participants to:

  • Understand how children are now digital natives from a young age and the implications on their personal safety.
  • Be aware of the impact of risk taking behaviour with children and young people.
  • Increase awareness and understanding of sexual exploitation and cyber bullying.
  • Learn about non contact child abuse and the law.

Day 2 - This training is a follow up to day 1. The session helps participants to develop e-safety policies and procedures.

It is suitable for all staff, governors and trustees who work in schools or agencies that work with children and young people. The session gives participants an understanding of:

  • How to provide training that meets statutory requirements and is accessible to all staff
  • How to develop a whole organisation approach to identification and support that will ensure a coherent, rigorous response to risk
  • Writing e-safety policies
  • Empowering all staff to be able to identify warning signs and take appropriate action
  • Becoming familiar with CEOP - Think you know materials for use with colleagues, parents and children and young people

On both days participants will have opportunities to see some of the most current videos and research available to support learning.
