Mentoring Club welcomes special guest

Our weekly Mentoring Club were recently paid a visit by a very special guest - Mr Keith Towler, The Children's Commissioner for Wales. Mr Towler, was keen to find out more about our mentoring scheme, and took part in a variety of activities with the young people, including music workshops, healthy cooking, and even had his very own massage!

Our mntoring club is designed for youngsters referred by their schools for extra support and mentoring.

CYCA Manager Tracy Pike said: "He is aware of the good work done at CYCA and we extended an invite for him to come and speak to the young people to explain his role and speak to children about what their concerns were.

"We were honoured that he was able to come and visit the young people despite his busy duties.

"He was very approachable and everyone got the chance to speak to him."

Mrs Pike said: "He said it was the first time he had ever done some of those things on a visit like this — it was really good and we had some fun with it."

Mr Towler said he had a really great time meeting the children and young people at the charity, and he paid tribute to the work there.

He said: "It is so important for their wellbeing that children and young people have a safe space where they can relax, take part in activities and socialise with their friends.

"It was fantastic to hear the children and young people telling me that they are thriving in the supportive and lively environment that the centre provides."
