Llanelli shows its talent at CYCA's 30 year anniversary event

Llanelli's Got Talent winnersWe celebrated 30 years of existence in style on September 17th by staging an exciting ‘Llanelli’s Got Talent’ event at the Best Western Diplomat Hotel and Spa. The event, which was organised in partnership with Dominos Pizza proved to be an enormous success, drawing an audience of over 250 people to the main evening show raising much needed funds.

The competition itself attracted nearly 30 of the most talented acts from the whole of south west Wales who auditioned throughout the day giving the judging panel, fronted by Welsh Factor founder Gareth Thomas, the nearly impossible task of selected the finalists. Such was the quality of the auditionees, the panel decided to extend the number of finalists from 8 to 13, which featured solo singers, music groups, dancers, gymnasts and a poet.

During the evening show, the audience were treated to performances of the highest possible quality, which was echoed by West End star, Phillip Arran, who was part of the judging panel for the main event, “I have had the pleasure of performing and singing for a number of years across the whole of the UK working with numerous professional performers, and I must say that the quality of performers at ‘Llanelli’s Got Talent’ was truly exceptional, especially amongst the younger acts. I am definitely going to keep an eye out for some of them, as they have the talent to go on to become major stars.”

The competition proved to be an extremely close contest with the judges’ scorecards showing very little difference between all of the acts. However, out on top to claim the 1st prize of £200 and the ‘Llanelli’s Got Talent’ winning trophy was 12 year old Leila Hughes who ‘wowed’ the crowd with a mesmeric performance of ‘Nessun Dorma’. Second prize of £100 went to 12 year old Natasha Hopkins and third prize was claimed by 9 year old Joshua Adams.

As well as the competition, the event featured an array of superb entertainment including performances from local singer and radio host Helen Enser Morgan, who also hosted the event brilliantly; West End star Phillip Arran and from last year’s competition winner Danielle Clement. There was also an auction, raffle and sponsored leg wax. Food for the evening was provided by Dominos, who treated everyone to fantastic pizza buffet.

As well as the money raised on the night, we were also donated £750 from Barclays Bank, which, to the delight of our manager Tracy Pike, has resulted in almost £3,000 being raised for the charity. “We are over the moon with the success of the event. We couldn’t have wished to celebrate our 30 year anniversary any better. The quality of all competitors has been outstanding and we would like to thank them all for taking part, as they made the event the superb spectacle that it was. I would also like to thank Helen Enser Morgan for hosting the event so well, as well as all the judges who gave up their precious time. We are also grateful to everyone who kindly donated all the excellent prizes for our auction and raffle, Welsh Chocolate Fountains, and Barclays Bank for their support. I would also like to say a very special thanks to the Diplomat Hotel & Spa for kindly donating us such a great venue and enabling us to seat extra parents and families for the evening event. Finally, Colin Harrison and his team at Dominos Pizza in Llanelli for helping us organise the event. The money raised will help us carry on with the vital work we do with the County’s most vulnerable children and their families. We look forward now to the next 30 years as well as staging a similar event in 2012.”
