We have always strived to use digital media and technology as a means of engaging with and supporting the children, young people and families who we work with.
As part of our Securing Futures project, we created an Interactive Support Gateway (ISG), which is a support website which provides an alternative/additional service to our face to face support that engages with isolated clients (rurally and socially), allows more flexibility in terms of how and when clients can access our support, and that appeals to our younger clients who are familiar (and expect) to be able to access support online.
The ‘gateway’ has 3 main functions.
It provides generic emotional health and wellbeing support through support information, exercises, downloads and video bytes. This part is divided into to four main areas: 8-11 years old, 12-16 years old, Adults and Families each containing relevant support content which has a ‘localised’ theme and approach by targeting directly the people of Carmarthenshire as well as signposting to local specialised agencies. Thus providing a ‘one-stop-shop’ for emotional and well being support for the people of the County.
It provides direct support for clients who are involved in our emotional health projects through a secure ‘log-in’ area, where they can access further online support, which is tailored to the issues, aims and models of the individual projects.
It allows families to access direct online therapy and general support via ‘chat’ and 'video' (Skype)
We also use digital media as a means of engaging with young people as part of our mentoring services. Through our mentoring clubs, the young people have created their own ‘blog’ and also use digital musical technology as a means of relaxation.
