We support children and young people in many ways, often when they are at their most vulnerable having experienced severe trauma or loss. The majority of this support is via our mentoring programme that is delivered through our:
All of which enables us to make real life changing differences, helping children and young people to take sense of their experiences and supporting them to learn how to use healthy coping strategies and life choices, which helps them improve their resiliency as well as their emotional and physical wellbeing.
How we work
Children and young people are referred to us by schools, health visitors, social workers, other professionals or by the parents themselves. They are then directed to the appropriate project/service where a holistic bespoke support package is then created. This involves working systemically with the whole family, whenever possible. A skilled ‘Mentor’ is then assigned to the child and a Family Support worker or Stress Practitioner for the parents/carers. Set goals are then agreed and the weekly work then begins. The timescale of the work varies depending on the individual family needs, however on average lasts for 6-9 months.
In situations where children have suffered major trauma and/or loss, our support package will involve child therapy sessions with our specialist team before any 'mentoring' work will take place.
