Our support for families literally starts at the very beginning within our three early years centres, Jellitotz and Tedi Bach. Each nursery is a designated ‘flying start’ setting, and as a result offers intensive support services to children aged 0-3 years old and their families who live in disadvantaged areas of Carmarthenshire.
This support is child focused, with the specific aim of improving the general well-being of the children by ensuring they develop their language skills, social skills, as well as their emotional and physical well-being. For some children, additional one-to-one support is provided through the ‘Helping Hands’ programme, which ensures they too have access to all of the necessary learning opportunities. All of which, helps the children be best placed to make a positive transition into primary school.
We adopt an approach which works holistically with the parents to ensure that they are fully engaged with their child's learning and development. This support involves inviting parents to visit and even engage within the sessions for a set time in order to settle their child if the need arises. As well as this, parents are able to engage with a variety of ‘parenting programmes’ via Flying Start staff, as well as other sessions that improve the parent and child relationship.
